DVCAM Tapes

The professional variant of consumer DV

DVCAM is a digital video format that has, in comparison to Digital Video (DV), a number of modified features. It was developed as a professional variant of the original DV format that was intended for the consumer sector. DVCAM tapes have a wider track pitch and higher speed in comparison to DV tapes. Lower error rates on the tapes are achieved through this. The maximum runtime is, however, reduced through the increased tape requirement. Evaporated metallic materials are used as the material for the tapes. DVCAM tapes are preferred in the professional field due to their high reliability and low error rates. Many professional devices work with the DVCAM format. In contrast to DV, the tapes can be transported at a speed of up to four times faster. This reduces the transfer speed from tape to a hard drive for example and ensures considerable time saving in film processing. In addition, DVCAM players and DVCAM recorders are compatible with DV and mini-DV formats. A further advantage in comparison to the DV format is the coupling of video and audio information. While consumer DV allows a drift between image and sound, DVCAM works with the so-called Locked Audio format. You can purchase DVCAM tapes from Sony and Fuji in the BPM Broadcast & Professional Media GmbH shop. They are available in different formats with differing runtimes.

DVCAM Tapes with differing runtimes

The BPM Broadcast & Professional Media GmbH shop stocks DVCAM tapes for you with differing runtimes. The playing time is between 34 and 184 minutes depending on the type of tape. The Sony PDV184N3 tape for example offers up to 184 minutes of recording time and is the ideal solution for high quality video productions and editing with low acquisition costs. They offer high picture quality and support recording in high resolution HDV mode. The DLC protective layer ensures increased durability of the tapes.

The Mini DVCAM Tape as a compact storage format

Compact Mini DVCAM tapes are also available in our shop. They provide recording times from 12 to 41 minutes and are produced by Sony. Products such as the Sony PDVM12N3 Mini DVCAM tape profits from a unique evaporation process. This allows an improved packing density of the tapes and an increased carrier-to-noise ratio. A superior recording quality with lower error rates is achieved through this. Appropriate cleaning tapes for DVCAM equipment such as cameras and recorders can also be ordered in our shop.

Should you have questions regarding the different tape formats for professional film-makers and their specific advantages and disadvantages, or regarding DVCAM tapes directly, please use the contact opportunities available in the shop. Our competent and friendly staff will be happy to answer all your questions and help you choose the right tapes for your equipment.
